Merit Badge Counselors

All merit badge counselors must have signed forms filed with the council once a year. Here is a list of what forms to fill out and where to send them.

New counselors

Follow this procedure if this is your first time signing up as a merit badge counselor for the Balboa Oaks District.

  1. Fill out a new adult leader application (English / Spanish - please get a copy from the Scout office because it includes carbon paper)
  2. Fill out a merit badge counselor application (Microsoft Word format / PDF format)
  3. Make a photocopy of your Youth Protection training card
  4. Mail these documents to:
    Boy Scouts of America
    Western Los Angeles County Council
    Attn: Customer Service
    16525 Sherman Way, Unit C-8
    Van Nuys, CA 91406

Renewing counselors

Follow this procedure if:

  1. Fill out a merit badge counselor application (Microsoft Word format / PDF format)
  2. Make a photocopy of your Youth Protection training card
  3. Mail these documents to:

The Balboa Oaks Merit Badge Counselor list is updated yearly, and will be provided at the Round Table kick-off each September. This renewal procedure verifies that the list includes your correct contact information (phone number(s), city, ZIP) and list of merit badges you teach.
